Our Partnership with The REAL Program
Promise the Children recently wrote about the decrease in public school funding—and the simultaneous increase in the number of students—that makes teaching so challenging today. Fortunately there are many charities that have dedicated themselves to helping with homework and strengthening the literacy skills of our nation’s children, like the Boys & Girls Clubs, Girls Inc., The YMCA, The YWCA and many others.
One of our favorite partners focused on literacy is The REAL Program, a charity that works closely with Brickett Elementary School in Lynn to offer its students literacy training after school. REAL also offers early education for Pre-K children and courses in English as a Second Language (ESL) for parents. The REAL program involves parents in their children’s education and offers social gatherings for families. Our goal at Promise the Children is to support the education of our young children, which is why we are proud to partner with REAL in their efforts.
The REAL Program recently moved into a new literacy center which needs additional work to meet licensing regulations. Promise The Children, in partnership with REAL, helped raise a salary for a part-time outreach worker. Working together, we raised over $10,000 on behalf of the cause.
We first celebrated our partnership with REAL by offering a raffle with prizes of $100, $300 and $500 which helped us raise over $3,500. We raised an additional $1,700+ from ticket sales. This $5,000+ total matched another grant of $5,000 that Promise the Children secured from The Bailey Family Trust on behalf of REAL.
While REAL’s part-time outreach worker has officially been hired, we still have more work to do. If you’d like to support these efforts you may donate here.
Thank you to all of our friends, supporters and patrons who continue to help us take action on behalf of our youngest citizens. We could not do this without you.
