Paid Leave & A Border Wall
The Working Families Flexibility Act Is Harmful
Consider opposing our national “Working Families Flexibility Act” (H.R. 1180 / S. 801). This act allows for an agreement between workers and their employers to choose paid time off, instead of overtime pay as compensation for working more than 40 hours in a week. However employers can veto employees’ requests to use accrued comp time when they feel the employee’s absence will “unduly disrupt” the employer’s business. This includes urgent requests such as caring for a sick child, or taking a child to a critical medical appointment.
In addition H.R. 1180/S. 801 would create a new right for employers, allowing them to delay paying overtime wages for as long as 13 months. This would harm employees whose salaries are so low that they are working extra time to pay for their rent or other essentials.

The Harmful Border Wall
Congratulations to those who contacted their congressmen and women and expressed opposition to building a new wall on the Mexican border. Your voices were heard. The republicans have declined to include funds to replace the existing fence with a wall. Paying for the wall would have increased the deficit enormously and might have caused harmful flooding to nearby farms businesses.
