Frequently
Asked Questions
What
is Promise the Children and how did it get started?
Promise started when the founder, Holly M. Albrecht, adopted two
children in 1998. She saw the many orphans and was determined to
do something to help. The organization initially provided aid to
orphanages. The adoption grant program developed after speaking
with many people that expressed a desire to adopt, but that simply
could not afford the $15,000 to $30,000 in costs. Many people have
volunteered to donate funds towards adoption grants, while others
have volunteered their time. What began as a small effort has evolved

What
are the guidelines to apply for a grant?
We at Promise the Children have a firm goal, to unite children
with families. We believe that EVERY child deserves a family
and that a family is their only true hope for survival and success.
Grant recipients are chosen without regard to age of adoptive
parents, current family size, age, race or religion. Single
parents are also welcome to apply.
In countries allowing multiple children to be adopted during
one trip we hope that parents will consider taking two children.
Can you apply for a grant to adopt
from any country?
Yes, we want all prospective parents to be able to follow their
hearts to find the child meant for them.
May we pick any adoption agency,
lawyer or facilitator service?
No, the agency must meet our maximum fee and no discrimination
guidelines. They must adhere to all adoptive laws in the U.S.
and of the country of adoption.
How do I proceed?
1. File an I600A Form with immigration
2. Obtain a home study
3. Wait till you receive your I17H Form from the IRS
You may look for an agency anytime in the procedure; however,
the agency must meet our non-discrimination and financial guidelines.
Before committing to an agency have a representative contact
our office.
Once you receive your I71H Form from immigration, mail a notarized
copy with a notarized home study, notarized color photocopy
of passport, application form, processing fee to us. |
